Pain Relieving Injections

For pain relief, injections can be more effective than an oral medication because they deliver medication directly to the exact anatomic location that is generating the pain. Typically, a steroid medication is injected to deliver a powerful anti-inflammatory solution directly to the area causing pain.

The Regenerative Clinic offers steroid injections and the latest Viscoelastic Supplements using OESTINEL® PLUS (a long lasting and effective pain relieving injection) and CINGAL® (a unique and highly effective pain injection that combines hyaluronic acid and a fast acting steroid).
The benefits of pain relieving injections:
  • Fast acting pain relief
  • Long lasting pain relief
  • Convenient single-injection treatment
  • Safe and effective
Diagnostically, injections can also be used to help determine the particular area that is generating pain. If lidocaine or similar numbing medication is used, and the patient feels temporary relief after an anatomic region is injected, it can then be inferred that the specific region is the source of the pain. When considered in conjunction with a patient’s history, physical exam, and imaging studies, injections used for diagnostic purposes can be very helpful in guiding further treatment.

How do they work?

Steroids are a man-made version of hormones normally produced by the adrenal glands, two small glands found above the kidneys.
When injected into a joint or muscle, steroids reduce redness and swelling (inflammation) in the nearby area. This can help relieve pain and stiffness.
When injected into the blood, they can reduce inflammation throughout the body, as well as reduce the activity of the immune system, the body’s natural defence against illness and infection.
Viscoelastic Supplements in combination with hyaluronic acid allow the therapeutic result to be enhanced.
