Menopause and Perimenopause

The menopause specifically refers to that time in every woman’s life when her ovaries lose their reproductive function, which can also bring with it a wide range of menopausal miseries including hot flushes, depression, vaginal dryness, itchiness, soreness and pain during sex.

Dyspareunia is the clinical term for pain during and/or after intercourse. Due to the lack of oestrogen, atrophic vaginas lack elasticity and can be dry and unlubricated. This can make sexual intercourse painful. Read more.

Lichen Planus is an inflammatory condition that can cause bumps and/ or sores on skin in your vaginal and vulva. In very severe cases, Lichen planus can cause scarring which may change the structure of the vagina and vulva entirely. Read more.

Vaginal Atrophy and Vulvodynia Vaginal atrophy (atrophic vaginitis) refers to the thinning, drying and inflammation of the vaginal walls as a result of your body producing less oestrogen. Without oestrogen, vaginal tissue becomes more delicate, sensitive and more exposed to trauma. Read more.

Lichen Sclerosus is a chronic inflammatory skin condition which can affect the genital skin (vulva) and the skin around the anus. The condition causes the skin to have a white, shiny appearance which is usually thinned but can often become raised and appear thickened. Read more.

Urinary incontinence is the unintentional loss of urine. Reduced levels of estrogen starting around menopause can cause thinning of the lining of the urethra. Stress incontinence is most commonly induced by aging and vaginal childbirth. Read more.
