      FAQ's
You don’t need any tests, passenger locator forms or quarantine if you’ve not been outside these areas in the last 10 days. If you have been outside of Ireland, the UK, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man in the last 10 days (even if you’re currently travelling from one of these places), you’ll need to follow the standard arrival procedures.
Children from any country ages 4 and under don’t need any tests for entry or exit from England. Children resident in the UK or from an approved vaccination-list country aged 5–17 need to take a day 2 test after arrival but don’t need to take a pre-arrival COVID test. Children 5-17 from outside of approved vaccination countries will need a pre-arrival, day 2 and day 8 test. And they’ll need to quarantine for their whole stay up to 10 days.
If you’re in transit from a non-red list country with an accepted full vaccination certificate, you can choose to take a lateral flow test instead of a PCR test for your day 2 arrival test. The lateral flow tests tend to be less expensive and faster to get results. If you do get a positive result, you can take a PCR test to confirm. This helps to prevent unnecessary quarantine.
If you’ve already purchased a PCR test for your day 2 return, that’s fine. You don’t need to buy another test. Just take that PCR test on or before day 2 of arrival. Remember, the day you arrive in the UK is day 0, the following day is day 1, and the next day is day 2. You must take your PCR or lateral flow test within this window of time.
Just because you have received one or two COVID-19 vaccinations doesn’t necessarily mean you are considered fully vaccinated by the UK government. And if you’re not part of an approved program, you’ll need to follow the non-vaccinated procedures. The UK considers you fully vaccinated if you are vaccinated as part of a: –approved vaccination programme in the UK, Europe, USA or UK programme for overseas vaccinations – if you’ve had both doses of Oxford/AstraZeneca, Pfizer BioNTech, Moderna or Janssen vaccines via public health in Australia, Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Bahrain, Brunei, Canada, Dominica, Israel, Japan, Kuwait, Malaysia, New Zealand, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan or the United Arab Emirates (UAE) This information is updated regularly, so it’s best to check the UK government website for the most recent data as countries can be added to or removed from this list. It is your responsibility to comply with all current regulations.
You must follow the rules for unvaccinated travellers if you are: – vaccinated with a non-approved COVID vaccination – only partially vaccinated for COVID (one dose only) – are not vaccinated against COVID at all How do I get my Booking Reference for the Passenger Locator Form? When you order and pay for a day 2 or day 2 & day 8 COVID test package, you’ll get a booking reference number. It’s a series of letters and numbers. You’ll need to put this on your Passenger Locator Form for entry into England. It may take up to 90 minutes for the email with your reference number to arrive. Just copy and paste it into the passenger locator form. Screenshot the email for reference in case you don’t have internet access on arrival.
A day 2 lateral flow test taken during an in-clinic appointment returns your results in 30 minutes – while you wait. This is the fastest way to get cleared so you can enjoy your visit. Tests that are done via the post or collect in-store return results within 3 hours after test submission between 8am -6pm. But outside these hours, it could take up to 8 hours for our validation team to get your certificate to you.
Our lateral flow test is 96% effective at detecting the presence of COVID-19 in your body. This is even before you show any visible symptoms. A false-positive result is very rare, but you can take a PCR test to confirm if you do get a positive result. If you take a PCR test instead of a lateral flow test, you must accept the result – even if it turns out to be a false positive- and quarantine for 10 days. That means, with a PCR test, you may be forced to endure quarantine without a second opinion on your test result. That makes lateral flow a more desirable (and affordable) option.
If you test positive with a lateral flow test, you can take a PCR test to confirm the result. While you wait to get that result back, you’ll need to quarantine in place. Many PCR tests can return same day or next day results. So, it’s often not long to wait. If that is also positive, you must quarantine for 10 days, however. Your family members and household may be asked to do the same.
Taking a lateral flow test for day 2 arrivals in England is easy. You received a nasal swab which is swished around in your nostril – approximately 5 times on each side. That’s then applied to a testing wand that returns your results in 30 minutes (in-clinic). You should feel no pain during this process, only a slight tickle as the swab is moved around.
There are two types of lateral flow tests, but the only difference is how the positive test is represented. There’s no difference between how a dipstick test or a housed test will work in terms of the technology. In a sandwich assay, if you see a coloured line at the test position, that means positive. With a competitive assay, a positive test reveals NO coloured line in the test line position. If you’re taking your test at our clinic, our team will tell you what kind of test you have and help you understand your results. You’ll also get a certificate with a clear and easy to understand result via email as well. If you’re taking it by post or click and collect, there are clear instructions on the test packet, and you’ll also get an email certificate with your results.
Yes, you will receive an email from us containing your test result certificate as a PDF attachment. You can then download this to your phone or print it out. For day 2 and day 8 results, these are reported directly to the government in line with the information you filled out on your passenger locator forms. So there’s nothing else you need to do other than follow quarantine rules if you receive a positive result.
